Desmond's Story
Desmond was born in December of 2009. Normal pregnancy, normal birth. He was a strapping, healthy, beautiful baby boy. Around the age of one we began to notice the delays and lack of eye contact. He began Early Intervention with a wonderful team of therapists that really helped bring Desmond out of "his world" and back into ours. Once entering LIU preschool he really began to connect with people and enjoy more play and interaction with others. He was given a formal diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder in October of 2013. Now at the age of 4, Desmond is an energetic and extremely happy little tike. He loves cuddles, his bulldog, tv, and of course his tablet.
We are participating in the Autism York Walk/Expo to help support, what I have found, to be an extremely resourceful and helpful organization. If ever I have a question or concern, someone is there to help me. With monthly support meetings and a huge library of resources at our fingertips, Autism York has brought us to understand how many in our area are affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder.
With the number of diagnosed cases rising everyday, it's important to support an organization that probably touches everyones lives in one way of another. Maybe not directly, but we all know someone who knows someone with a child or adult in their family with Autism.
By supporting Autism York you are supporting local families and their local need for support, resources, and activities for their special needs.

Autism York sponsors many events and programs at low or no cost to families and individuals living with Autism Spectrum Disorder in our community. These include monthly meetings, family social events, a social groups for adults with ASD, a Resource Guide, Lending Library, education and awareness opportunities, the Buddy Project, Special Siblings Outreach Program, and more!
All are made possible through tax deductible donations to Autism York. About 75% of the income raised each year to fund all of these events and programs comes from the annual Walk. All money raised stays here to support individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families in the York area. Thank you for generous support!
